Four weeks

The puppies had their first experience outdoors today.  Some were a little scard although the presence of Mum settled them quickly.  They used their noses as soon as they were out and must have had an array of different sights and smells to contend with.  They ate and quicklly felll asleep in the lush, green cool of the vegetation.  Below are some of the shots.

Puppy cuddles

The puppies are growing more inquisitve each day.  We also like to make sure they are well socialised with both children and adults.

Three and a half weeks

The puppies are thriving.  They have opened their eyes and started to waddle around.  Today they began their first solid feed as the weaning process begins.  Mum will still feed them until approximately six weeks but she cannot sustain eleven growing puppies on her milk alone.

They were a little confused at first.  They could smell something delicious but weren't sure how to get it into their wee mouths.  Some walked right through the food, others licked at the edges of the bowl, but eventually most seemed to work things out. I'm grateful that Petra is great at cleaning up their messy feet, and fur after their meal.

The next big challenge was to learn to walk up the ramp to their bed.  Some sat at the bottom of the ramp and howled, others decided to try  the ramp.  With a little help each one managed to wobble their way back to their bed and promptly settled down in a growing pile of puppies, burrowing their way into the pile until they felt secure and ready to sleep off their extra meal.

12 Days old

The puppies are 12 days old and some of their eyes have started to open. They are a startling blue but will change to a golden colour as they age.

We are grateful for the safe arrival of this perfect litter of Petra's pups.  They are two days old here.
It is amazing to watch them develop.

Hunting Technique quite natural

The ability of a Vizsla to hunt somes naturally.  Even at a very young age you can see the pups stalk in on their target with the fluid movement so typical to a Vizsla.
